Rosten & Winifred

Name
Rosten & Winifred
Bio

Winifred is a Troth Elder and has been a member since 1993. She has presented a maze-walking event at many earlier Trothmoots, joined by Rosten. Her main Heathen work now is writing about Heathen soul lore and other spiritual topics, as well as spaeworking. Winifred grew up as the daughter of a US diplomat and spent many years living in multiple countries overseas, including attending a German high school for 3 years, and living and working in Germany and Greece for years as an adult. This years-long immersion in other cultures and languages has helped her efforts to take an “immersion approach” to exploring Heathen soul lore through the lens of ancient Germanic languages and cultures. Winifred is retired now from her career as a senior research scientist with the Army Corps of Engineers, working on natural resources management techniques for military training installations in the US and Germany.
Rosten is a professional blacksmith and made the stakes for the maze. He has been a Troth member since the mid-1990s, and has presented many blacksmithing workshops at past Trothmoots. Rosten also grew up in multiple countries as the son of a consulting engineering professor and a German mother, and works on immersion learning of German. Before starting his blacksmithing career in 1991, he was a petroleum geologist. Winifred and Rosten met when Winifred needed a full-size Thor’s Hammer for conducting a wedding, and asked Rosten to make it. Rosten was thus introduced to Heathenism, and a couple of years later, this Hammer was used to bless their own Heathen wedding. The same Hammer will be used to bless the maze ritual.
