Welcome to Memphis! Trothmoot 2022 will be at Meeman Shelby Forrest State Park, just 13 miles north of the city. We will be housed at the Piersol Group Camp, a ADA accessible facility with a shaded cabin area, large field for games, and modern dining facility.

Diana L. Paxson has been a member of the Troth since 1992. Diana is a Troth Elder who has served on the High Rede and as Steerswoman and continues to serve the Troth as Coordinator of the Troth Clergy Training Program and editor of our journal, IDUNNA. She leads Hrafnar kindred in Berkeley, California. Diana is also well-known as a teacher and author. Of her many short stories and novels, BRISINGAMEN, THE WODAN’S CHILDREN trilogy, and THE BOOK OF THE SPEAR are of particular interest to Heathens. Robert L. Schreiwer is a founder of the Heathen denomination of Urglaawe, Ziewer (godsman) of Distelfink Sippschaft, a trained practitioner of the Pennsylvania German healing and magical traditions of Braucherei and Hexerei. Through the Pennsylvania German Heathen Alliance for the Urglaawe and Distelfink Sippschaft, he has been conducting a project to gather oral lore from all regions of Deitsch (Pennsylvania German) settlement. Patricia Lafayllve has served The Troth as a Steward, High Steward, Redesperson, and Steer. She created the Lore Program, is a certified Troth godsperson, and is currently serving in her second term as High Steward. She is the author of Freyja, Lady, Vanadis: An Introduction to the Goddess and A Practical Heathen’s Guide to Asatru. She is a seidhkona, a Freyjasgythja, and a good egg.

Stacey Stewart is a rising Heathen artist who has been advancing the expression of Urglaawe traditions by providing imagery to Pennsylvania Dutch myths as well as form to the Urglaawe rune sets. As Editor of the Urglaawe newsletter, Hollerbeer Hof, and as the Public Relations Director of Distelfink Sippschaft, Stacey has been expanding the breadth and the reach of our theories and lore. Her interpretations feature both traditional motifs, representing where we are from, and modern interpretations of the art of past to assist the Urglaawe community in embracing the visions of the future of this

But with some tips and guidance from translator Ben Waggoner, you'll find that you can figure out more than you thought you could. We'll get an overview of Old Norse grammar and then start merrily bashing our merry way through some reading extracts.

Urglaawe 410: Die Deitsche Raane (The Pennsylvania Dutch Runes)

The heirloom healing Deitsch (Pennsylvania German) practice of Braucherei (also called Powwow in English) and the related magical practice of Hexerei serve as tremendous folk resources for the Heathen denomination of Urglaawe. Among a small group of Hexerei practitioners, remnants of a runic system of unknown age have been used in healing and in divination. This system has been picked up by the Urglaawe community, reconstructed as well as possible, and updated into a complex system of runes, elements, colors, mechanisms, and intentions. Land-Taking, Opening Blót, and Raising of the Glove

Trothmoot cannot begin without the Raising of the Glove, a traditional declaration that the event is being held within a frith-stead. After this short ceremony and a blót to Tyr, there will be a brief walk around the grounds to introduce ourselves to the land with which we will be sharing the weekend.
